Barnet and Southgate College bricklayer nominated for “Builder of the Year” award

20th October, LONDON

Barnet and Southgate College is celebrating the outstanding achievement of Rosa Joseph-Janak who was commended in the 19-25 Builder of the Year category of the YouthBuild awards.

Rosa, who was formerly a bricklaying student at Barnet and Southgate College, and now teaches bricklaying at the Colindale campus, impressed judges with her exceptional craftsmanship and innovative approach.

The “Builder of the Year” award recognises young rising stars who demonstrate technical excellence and creativity.

Rosa, who began her journey in construction just two years ago, hopes her win will inspire more young people — particularly women — to consider a career in building and construction.

 

Rosa said on her achievement: “I'm just thankful to all the people that helped me to get there, and proud of myself for how hard I worked and not giving up.”

Nichola Kasapi, industrial placements officer at Barnet and Southgate College, said: “Congratulations Rosa. You have been a pleasure to work with and I’m really proud of how hard you worked on your placement.
“A huge thank you to Abigail at Wates Construction London and City Brickwork UK for offering our students such amazing work placement opportunities.”
