This course is ideal for motivated, creative learners who want to take their skills to a professional level and pursue behind-the-scenes careers in the creative industries. It is particularly suited to: learners who have completed a relevant Level 3 qualification in a creative or production-based subject; individuals with practical or industry experience who want to formalise their skills and build professional confidence; those aiming to progress into technical, production or management roles across areas such as theatre, live events, media or production. This course is perfect if you are looking for a hands-on, vocational pathway with strong links to industry practice, professional workflows and clear progression routes into employment or Higher Education.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
You will have a minimum of 5 × GCSE grade 4 or grade C, including English and Maths, and one A level (or equivalent Level 3 qualification), preferably in a relevant creative subject
What will I study ?
Unit 1: Establishing Principles of Technical and Production Practice introduces how the creative and production industries operate in professional contexts. You will explore key technical and production roles, professional communication, teamwork and industry-standard working practices within a production environment. Unit 2: Applied Professional Practice focuses on applying your skills through industry-focused, practical projects that reflect real-world working environments. You will develop confidence in meeting briefs and deadlines, gain experience in professional behaviour, and begin building industry contacts. In Unit 3: Professional Development Project, you will independently plan and deliver a substantial production project in a specialist area of interest. You will research, propose and manage your own project, taking responsibility for key production roles and developing independence and problem-solving skills.
How will I be assessed ?
Assessment is practical and coursework-based, with no written exams. You will be assessed through practical projects, portfolios, professional practice evidence and written reflections produced during industry-focused activities. All assessment is based on meeting the unit learning outcomes and focuses on practical outcomes, professional working practices and reflective evaluation.

How do I join the course ?

Will I need an interview ?
Yes - you will need to meet a member of staff for an interview; to which you should bring any examples of your creative work, and a written piece (approximately 500 words). This will be in the form of a film review.
Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?
Most of the materials will be provided, but it is advisable to invest in a selection of media storage equipment and materials, so that you can continue your work outside of the studios.

It’s been really good here and issues I have had have been resolved and the College is very good, my tutors are amazing, Sonia is so good and I have gone to a whole new level on level 3, I feel like I’ve learned a lot more in terms of production and sound.

"Tutors are really supportive, and at the beginning of term things were getting stressful, but my tutor really supported us and we all communicated well together to solve the issue. I did a media course at school but teaching wise it’s a lot better here and there’s much more detail and it was not as helpful at school so I like it at College. The facilities are really good especially the green screen room, you can film what you want and the lighting is good and we have everything we need."
