This one-year course at Barnet and Southgate College is for young people aged 16–18 or up to 25 with an EHCP who have not yet achieved the right grade to progress into other mainstream vocational areas. This is perfect if you need to spend some more time working on maths and English, while developing your study and soft skills. This is an ideal course to get used to the college environment. You will be able to spend lunch and break times independently. There will be opportunities to take part in a range of trips and other enrichment activities while you prepare for your progression onto other programmes. You will build communication skills and confidence while working on a full set of qualifications to take you forward. You will have a positive attitude towards learning and be able to take part in pair and small group work.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
You do not need any formal qualifications. There will be a test at interview to assess English, maths and communication skills.
What will I study ?
5 BTEC L1 units, including communication and organisation components, as well as two core units plus FS or GCSE English and maths.
How will I be assessed ?
You will be assessed in a range of ways including assignments and exams (for your GCSEs).
What qualifications could I achieve ?
You can achieve a L1 Award or Certificate in Vocational Studies with a Pass or Merit grade. You could also achieve GCSE or Functional Skills qualifications in English and maths.
