This is a TWO-YEAR course to develop teaching skills for those wishing to teach in the post 14 Further Education (FE) and Skills Sector. This course is validated by the University of Derby.
for the Level 5 qualification you need a Level 3 in a subject that is applicable to the Further Education and Skills sector. For the Level 7 qualification, you will need a minimum 2:2 undergraduate degree. For all levels you will also need GCSE grade C (4/5) or above in English language and maths, or Level 2 in literacy and numeracy. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is also required at the point of accepting a place at the University.
The course is structured over two years and includes 6 modules (3 Modules per year) Compulsory modules include; Introductory Award in Education and Training, Enhancing teaching, learning and assessment, Theories and principles of educational practice, Subject specialist professional practice, Curriculum in context. One optional module is selected from; Principles and practice of leadership and management in post-14 education, Post-14 teaching in schools and academics, Promoting and maintaining behaviour for learning, Learning technologies for education, Higher education teaching in colleges or a Research project: The Enquiring professional
Assessment is through assignments, reflective accounts, seminar discussions and 8 classroom based observations. As a partner student you will be granted access to the University's online learning environment 'University of Derby Online (UDo)'. From within UDo you will be able to access the University's Library (including an extensive range of eBooks, eJournals, audio and video resources), course resources related to your programme and your grades.
On successful completion of this course, students will achieve a Level 5 Certificate in Education or a Level 7 Post Graduate Certificate in Education Post 14 (PGCE). Both qualifications can lead on to QTLS.
