This course is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in the digital creative design industry. This two-year course teaches traditional art and design skills alongside the latest 3D digital technology used by today's leading creative industries. Students will experience a wide range of creative media to equip them with the skills and expertise to work with the very latest design technology and 3D digital rendering systems to communicate ideas and showcase skills.

5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A-C) or a relevant UAL/ BTEC level 2 diploma at a merit grade or equivalent qualifications. Qualifications must include English language and maths at GCSE grade 4/C or above, or Functional Skills level 2. A portfolio of work demonstrating current achievement and potential is essential.

Year 1 (Diploma) Exploratory stage - students explore presenting designs using traditional and digital media and attend a variety of 2D and 3D workshop activities to develop knowledge/understanding of materials and techniques to develop industry relevant creative design skills. Year 2 (Extended) students choose a specialist area such as: Architecture, Interior Design, Stage and Set design, Product Design. Course components include perspective drawing, CAD, studio practice in all mediums, spatial and aesthetic discovery and understanding, problem solving and creative thinking in design, research and design development, employing traditional and digital technology to create and produce outcomes. Students complete a Final Major Project - writing/directing a 3D design project using knowledge and skills acquired. Students showcase their portfolios at the end-of-year student exhibition.

Assessment is formative and coursework is assessed throughout the year.

Year 1 - UAL: Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design. Year 2 - UAL: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design. Progression onto year 2 is subject on successful completion of the diploma, attendance & punctuality.

Yes, you will need to meet with a member of the Art and Design team for an interview and an initial assessment.

We charge a £30 materials contribution. Many materials will be provided but it is also advisable to invest in a range of art equipment so that you can continue working independently at home - such as sketch books, a range of HB - 6B pencils, colouring pencils, finite pens, acrylic paints and brushes.
