Tennis Education Academy

Barnet and Southgate College has been leading the way in Further Education College Tennis development since 2012

Take a look at our latest leaflet:

We have held “Enhanced College” status from the Tennis Foundation since 2013, winning the Middlesex and subsequently South-East LTA Region AEGON British Tennis Award in 2015, and winning multiple singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles at AoC Sport London regional tournaments and medallists at multiple AoC National Championships competitions.

In 2017 BSC entered into an additional partnership with WimX to deliver a performance Tennis programme offer alongside and in addition to the LTA AASE qualification.

About WimX

The WimX Academy is the only academy where five former tour and Wimbledon players are working together as a coaching team. The founding WimX partners of Andrew Foster, Jo Ward, Lorna Woodroffe, Helen Crook and Victoria Davies have a wealth of knowledge of the British and international game through combined experiences of travelling and competing on the tour. The partners are all former British No.1s and No.2s, have all held world rankings between 69 and 160 and between them have won 99 professional titles. They have also competed in all of the Grand Slams as well as representing Britain in the Olympics, Davis Cup, Federation Cup, European Cup and Hopman Cup.

The founders have worked with players in the top 100 in the world and many players competing at Grand Slams and on the ITF professional circuits. On the junior side, the team have turned many club players into national, matrix and ITF players as well as taking players from U11 through to U14 top 50 in the world. As a result the WimX team are aware of and always planning for the whole tennis player journey. It’s great to excel when you are mini tennis age, but at WimX the plan is always to become the best yellow ball player you can be.

The programmes:

With AASE now no longer a programme, and the LTA deciding not to deliver an alternative, Barnet and Southgate College, with our partners at WimX have put together the following improved Tennis Scholarship type packages to players at various levels who want to combine their Tennis development with education in a cohesive way.

With all these packages players fully have the option to remain with their individual coach and existing programme in addition to what they do as part of this scheme, or if they wish they can access private coaching within WimX with subsidised add-on packages available. The students must be full-time students of Barnet and Southgate College on a full-time main qualification and it is strongly advised that this either a course within the Sports Department (Btec at various levels, NVQ or the YMCA awards), or A-Level study programme. Those on Tier 2 and Tier 3 pathway it is also expected that they purchase the branded Nike training wear at a discounted rate. It is expected that all students on this pathway represent the College in any and all College competitions that is requested (AoC Sport Championships, LTA Senior Students competition, LTA National Championships.
