Foundation Learning courses are one of Barnet and Southgate College’s big success stories.
One thing that unites our Foundation Learning course students is that they have all had doors shut on them, whether this has been by teachers at school or by employers who are unwilling or unable to give them a chance to progress at work because of a lack of basic qualifications.
We create an environment where you won’t feel overshadowed or pressured by others. For most, studying our Adult Foundation Skills, Move Up or Bridging Courses is a means to an end and the results are superb – around 70% go on to a level 2 or 3 course at the College and others secure Apprenticeships and jobs straight from these courses.
As many as one in six people in the UK struggle with literacy, that is to say their reading and writing is not very good. This affects peoples’ chances, the stats tell us that men and women with poor literacy are the least likely to be in full-time employment at the age of thirty. We know how to take those with the biggest hurdles over the finishing line.
We teach in a way that relates to the real world. This means that we understand the barriers to work, and know how to teach crucial job-hunting and employment skills. We teach you these skills before rather than after you start looking for work.
