The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching curriculum is a gateway to networking jobs and IT careers such as IT Technicians, IT Support, Network maintenance and administration. The whole CCNA curriculum consists of four modules: Introduction to Networks, Routing and Switching Essentials, Scaling Networks, and Connecting Networks. This four part course (of which this is part 2 or 3) provides a comprehensive theoretical and practical approach to learning the technologies and protocols needed to design, configure and implement computer networks. It prepares you for the CCNA examination which is a professional level qualification recognised by employers and those in the networking industry.
CCNA - Scaling Networks is usually the third course (though you can take it as the 2nd). You are required to have already passed CCNA - Routing and Switching Essentials. Materials are comprehensive but require excellent reading and study skills.
Students will study how to configure routers and switches for advanced functionality. By the end of this course, students will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with OSPF, EIGRP, and STP in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Students will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement DHCP and DNS operations in a network. In this module, you will gain practical experience as well as theoretical knowledge; learning how to design, cable, secure and troubleshoot networks, configure routers and switches and set-up and secure wired and wireless networks. You'll be given access to networking utilities including our fully kitted Cisco lab and network simulation tools. This helps to provide you with the practical experience (often difficult to find elsewhere) necessary to pass the CCNA examination and further your employment in the industry.
Each module is assessed through a combination of multiple choice examinations and practical skills demonstration. There is a final proctored examination held on-site. You will need to complete each module with an average grade of 75% to be able to progress to the next.
Academic Certification: The whole CCNA programme consists of four modules leading to a CCNA academy certification and an option to take the CCNA industry qualification for additional costs. You will be given a Cisco Networking Academy Programme Certificate for each module of the course you complete. Industry certification: The first 2 modules of the CCNA programme prepare you for the Cisco CCENT certification exam or to study CCNA Security. All 4 courses are recommended before taking the Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching industry certification exam (a fee is payable not included in the course fee) which can be taken independently at any time from a Pearson VUE Testing Centre, including the one at Barnet and Southgate College.
