This is a two-year qualification for higher education or adult learners who wish to progress within existing employment or change career into employment in counselling following a career break. Please note access to suitable counselling work situations is compulsory for successful completion of this qualification.

A Level 3 or Level 4 certificate in counselling. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of ethical awareness and a willingness to find a counselling placement (100 hours of client work associated with this qualification). A handwritten personal statement of approx. 500 words about why you wish to study counselling. Candidates should ideally be aged 21 and over.

This 8 unit qualification provides specialist work related knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in counselling. Covering counselling skills, development & practice, the person centred approach, comparative theories, continuing personal development, human development in relation to counselling, loss, grief, abuse, and client work in therapeutic counselling Please note student attend lessons once a week and are required to also attend a residential weekend. They are also required to have weekly personal therapy, regular supervision as well as a placement.

Candidates are assessed through written assignments, reflective journals, class/individual presentations, direct observations of skills work, group work, case studies, knowledge of counselling research, supervision reports, video recording with a transcript and self-evaluation

Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. Upon successful completion of both years of the course students can then apply to register with the BACP (subject to BACP tests, further information available at interview).

Yes, you will need to meet with a member of staff for an interview and an initial assessment. Please bring with you a handwritten personal statement of approx. 500 words about why you wish to study counselling.

Yes - there is a weekend residential counselling trip which costs approximately £250, as well as books and other materials that may need to be purchased.
