For those aged 16 and over who are interested in a career in dentistry. This qualification focuses on direct chair-side work and support during a range of dental treatments. It encompasses the underpinning ethics, professionalism, teamwork and communication required to work as a dental nurse. This qualification encompasses the current General Dental Council (GDC) learning outcomes and Skills for Health National Occupational Standards
All successful applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to work at Level 2 in Maths and English. Learners must also be working or in a voluntary placement for a minimum of 16 hours per week in a Dental Surgery/Dental Nursing Environment. Students will need to show proof of this before they can enrol. To get a placement the best approach is visiting/emailing local Dental Surgeries/Hospitals and requesting 2 days a week placement, many places offer this as they get students who can train for free and gain experience. More help can of course be offered at interview.
Our courses are closely mapped against the health and social care / dental sector requirements. This ensures that our curriculum is up-to-date, providing you with the assurance that your learning is current and relevant. You will learn about health and safety in a dental environment, the regulatory requirements, providing support for a range dental procedures, oral hygiene and first aid.
A range of assessment methods will be utilised, this provides the opportunity for different learning styles and individual needs of learners to be taken into account.
On successful completion of this course learners will achieve a Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice of Dental Nursing.
