If you have an interest in PE and sports coaching this course will be ideal for you. It is designed for post -16 students who want to go on to further study and who have either an academic interest in sport or who seek a career in the sports industry.
To get on this course you are required to have 4 GCSEs at grades A*- D (8/9 - 3), including English, Maths and preferably P.E. Alternatively, you should have a BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure with Level 1 Functional Skills English and Maths. You must have an interest and choose from one of the following academies on your application: Athletics; Basketball; Football; American Football; Tennis; Boxing or Leadership. It would be ideal that you have previous experience playing competitive sport however, not necessary to secure a placement on the course.
This course covers a range of interesting topics such as: Planning, leading and reviewing sessions; The development of coaching skills; Working with a range of abilities; Understanding the importance of health & safety; Set up of activities in active leisure and recreation. You will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience as part of the curriculum. As part of your full-time study programme, you will also be required to attend training with one of our academies: Athletics; Basketball; Football; American Football; Tennis; Boxing or Leadership.
Assessments will take place throughout the course including: practical assessments; written assignments; presentations and workbooks.
On successful completion of this course, you will achieve a NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Activity Leadership.
