This course will suit you if you are over 16 and have an interest in the human body and its relation to health and fitness. It would also be suitable if you want to progress onto the YMCA Level 3 Personal Training course or pursuit a career in the health and fitness industry, with the ultimate aim of becoming a fitness instructor.
To get on this course you are required to have 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C (8/9 - 4/5), including English, Maths and preferably P.E. Applicants with a BTEC L2 Award in Sport require a distinction grade, with English and Maths GCSE's at a minimum grade C (4/5). Applicants with a BTEC L2 Certificate in Sport require a merit grade, with English and Maths GCSE's at a minimum grade C (4/5). You must have an interest and choose from one of the following academies on your application: Athletics; Basketball; Football; American Football; Tennis; Boxing or Leadership. It would be ideal that you have previous experience playing competitive sport however, not necessary to secure a placement on the course.
In this course you will study a range of subjects specific to the Health and Fitness industry, including: Anatomy & Physiology; Principles of training; Planning and delivering gym sessions; Working with clients; Health and Safety; employability skills. You will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience as part of the curriculum. As part of your full-time study programme, you will also be required to attend training with one of our academies: Athletics; Basketball; Football; American Football; Tennis; Boxing or Leadership.
Assessments will take place throughout the course including: 2 exams (external assessment); completion of learner assessment records (LARs); practical assessments; presentations.
On successful completion of this course, you will achieve a YMCA Level 2 Diploma in Health, Fitness and Exercise Instruction.
