For students at upper-intermediate - advanced level who want to improve their general English language skills, develop confidence in speaking, improve their writing skills, develop language learning techniques and strategies and prepare for Cambridge English CAE exam.

Your level should be upper intermediate/ advanced (C1CEFR.) We will test you to make sure the class is right for you.

The main structures of the language with confidence and fluency. Communication for a variety of social situations using strategies for authentic speech. A wide range of vocabulary and use of language. Effective learning strategies. A variety of writing tasks that show awareness of target reader and register. A variety of reading and listening strategies to develop understanding and communication. Organisation of writing tasks and expression on ideas with a high level of accuracy. All aspects of the Cambridge English Certificate in Advanced English.

All students will be given homework to do every week including writing tasks. You will also be given tests to assess your progress.

You can take the Cambridge English FCE or CAE exams. All students will receive a Barnet and Southgate College Certificate of attendance.

You can be assessed at Southgate Campus, Mon - Fri. 10.00 - 12.00. The test usually takes 1 hour. If you not able to come for an assessment we can send you the test by email

You will need to buy a course book which is approximately £35.00. You are expected to bring a file and notebook to all your classes. If you choose to do an exam you will need to pay for your exam £55 - £95.00 dependent on level.

You can start your course at any time during the year. Maximum class size: 20

There is a great social programme for you to enjoy e.g. trips to museums and the theatre, visits to places outside London like Brighton and Cambridge.
