For students at intermediate level who want to improve their general English language skills, develop confidence in speaking, improve their writing skills, develop language learning techniques and strategies and prepare for Cambridge English PET exam.
You should be at intermediate level (B1 CEFR.) We will test you to make sure the class is right for you.
The main structures of the language and use functional components with increasing confidence. Communication for everyday situations, e.g. taking part in discussions, making arrangements and relating past events. Listening skills, e.g. have an understanding of attitude and intention in dialogues. Writing e.g. a simple letter/email or a short narrative for a variety of contexts. A range of vocabulary and use of language. Short reading texts to understand the general meaning and context. All aspects of the Cambridge English Preliminary English Test
All students will be given homework to do every week including writing tasks. You will also be given tests to assess your progress.
All students will receive a Barnet and Southgate College Certificate of attendance at level B1 CEFR. You can take a Cambridge English exam at level B1 CEFR in December, March or June. You can take a Cambridge English PET exam

You can be assessed at Southgate Campus, Mon - Fri. 10.00 - 12.00. The test usually takes 1 hour. If you not able to come for an assessment we can send you the assessment test by email
You will need to buy a course book which is approximately £35.00. You are expected to bring a file and notebook to all your classes. If you choose to do an exam you will need to pay for your exam £55 - 95.00 dependent on level.

There is a great social programme for you to enjoy e.g. trips to museums and the theatre, visits to places outside London like Brighton and Cambridge.
